What is Misfit?
Misfit Market started out as an ugly produce delivery service. The founder Abhi Ramesh saw farmers setting aside ugly produce that can’t be sold in normal supermarkets because they don’t fit the physical beauty standards. The farmers will try to give them away to neighbors or eat them themselves but often the majority of those produces go to waste. He started Misfit Market to cut food waste, and middlemen, and buy cheap certified organic produce. Now Misfit Market offers mostly certified organic and non-GMO produce and food pantry staples.
Here’s a video about how the founder Abhi Ramesh and his journey in starting Misfit Market:
How does Misfit Market Produce Delivery work?
When you sign up with Misfit Market it will have a pre-made pack of veggies and fruits in the cart. You can customize the shipment to your preference by customizing the produce and packaged goods by adding and deleting them from the original list. It will ship within 1 to 2 days. By default, once you create an account you will be signed up for a weekly shipment so it’s easy and hassle-free. Misfit Market has 500+ grocery items to choose from as well as their famous certified organic ugly produce.
What can you get at Misfit?
Either on the website or the Misfit app you can buy organic fruits, organic vegetables, bread, milk (vegan and non-vegan), cheese, meat, seafood, snacks, gluten-free items, wine, juice, sparkling water, condiments, chocolate, and pet treats. I've found the food pantry section not as diverse as you would find at your local grocery store.
But they have the majority of the staples I look for which are usually veggies, fruits, oat milk, tofu, and rice. I'm easy to please and it makes me happy when I have fresh fruits and veggies. They don't have a good selection of dried beans or lentils.
How much is Misfit Market?
Misfit has a minimum order of $30 with a flat shipping fee starting from $6.99 per box. If you sign up for a weekly delivery Misfit Market will have a pre-selected box of vegetables and fruits that comes out to be about $30. You can customize this box by adding or deleting items from the list. If the box doesn’t add up to at least $30 the order will not be filled and shipped out.
Here’s a price comparison for produce against Walmart. Outside of price, the produce from Misfit Market looked and tasted much fresher. My spinach even came with lots of dirt! These are prices in New York City.

I know you might think Misfit Market prices look better because it's expensive in New York but it's still overall cheaper even in Little Rock, AR.

1 Organic Large Cauliflower | $3.06 | $3.46 | |

How much is Misfit Market per Month?
It depends on how many boxes you order per month. If you get a weekly delivery of Misfit Market box, let’s say that is 4 deliveries on Sundays, the minimum box price is $30 per week. And shipping fee starts from $6.99 per box. So you are looking at about $148 per month if you get 4 boxes with the minimum order.
This is of course a ballpark maybe some weeks you are out of town and skip the order or you may want more items than the minimum required box so I would say it could run anywhere from under $40 per month (one box) to $200 per month (4 boxes that are a little bit over the $30 weekly minimum).
Is It Really Cheaper?
Yes. Misfit is cheaper if you want to buy organic. If you looked at the section How much is Misfit Market? you will notice pretty much all the produces especially organic produce come out to be cheaper than from Walmart. Of course, if you are not looking to buy organic there are probably cheaper options.
Why Should I Eat Organic?
If you might be thinking why should I eat organic? Why bother why shouldn't I just choose a cheaper version produce. There are researches (1, 2, 3) backing up the benefits of eating organic for your health and the health and well-being of the environment and society.
Organic produce has been shown to be more nutritious than nonorganic foods and they may contain more vitamin C, antioxidants, and minerals. You are also not eating pesticide residues from one of the dirty dozen.
By not using toxic pesticides and fertilizers organic farming prevents the build-up of these toxic substances in the soil, water, and in human bodies. Organic farming methods also are less polluting, safer and healthier for farm and wild animals, and improve soil and water quality.

What can you make from your Misfit Market Food Delivery?
Because I get so much fresh produce from Misfit Market I really enjoy using them in my cooking. I enjoyed the organic apples with a drizzle of almond butter. I also make apple chips by sticking them in the oven or in the dehydrator to make them last longer. I made no tomato guacamole with the avocados and had tortilla chips.
Here's the recipe for my no-tomato guacamole you can whip up quickly. It's a party favorite!

No Tomato Guacamole Recipe – 6 Ingredients
Ingredients
- 2 Ripe avocados
- ½ Onion

FAQs
Can I pause/ stop Misfit delivery?
When you sign up, you will automatically be registered to get weekly produce deliveries. But you can cancel or pause/ skip weekly delivery at any time. You just need to make sure to pause or cancel before the automatic processing of orders which happens a day or two before your chosen delivery day of the week.
If you're signed up for a weekly box, Misfit auto-creates a default box worth about $30, if you don't skip in time you will just be billed. So for example, if you have a weekly delivery on Wednesday, the order might get filled and billed 2 days before on Monday. You need to skip or cancel your order before Sunday before 11:45 pm EST. Or you will be billed on Monday.
You can also opt-out of weekly box delivery that way you won't be auto-charged every week. And you can order a box when your pantry's low, you need fresh produce, or you just want the peace and comfort of knowing you can order at the times you want to because life happens and maybe you don't have time to customize your box that week.
One option I wish Misfit had for their weekly plan was to auto-populate it with my most frequently bought items. I regularly use carrots, cabbage, cucumber, and blueberries weekly (I know I should eat other fruits and veggies but I have some go-to produce). That way even if I forget to customize my box I know I will get veggies and fruits I eat regularly anyway. Also, they should have a section for food allergies or diet preferences so they will never populate a vegan subscriber's box with non-vegan items.
Misfit and Imperfect Foods merger
You might have read that Misfit Market will acquire its rival Imperfect Foods. This news broke in September 2022. Misfit still hasn’t closed the deal yet and will need to go through regulatory approvals. Misfit’s CEO Abhi Ramesh expects about a year to consolidate the two companies after closing the deal.
Does that mean Imperfect Foods’ offerings and service will be more like Misfit’s? We don’t know yet, but we will keep an eye out for some of these changes that are coming in the online produce delivery services.
