Some have worked hard to narrow their plant-based meal services down to two brands killing it in the vegan space. Others, on the other hand have stumbled upon comparing these two powerhouses: Daily Harvest and Splendid Spoon. I used both subscriptions for a month each. This is my story and these are my opinions. Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you the Superbowl of vegan meal delivery services showdown.
Comparing Two 100% Vegan Meal Delivery Subscriptions
Do you know that amazing feeling you get after taking the time to plan your meals for the week? The meals are on paper from Monday through Sunday, the ingredients are listed and all you have left to do is take a trip to the grocery store. You hop in your car, determined with the eye of a tiger, and on your way to conquering the vegan-friendly grocery list you worked so hard at.
Halfway through your shopping experience, you notice that this grocery store just doesn’t have ¼ of the items on your list. So you scratch Tuesday’s dinner, Wednesday’s breakfast, and most importantly, Thursday’s dinner. Disappointment sets in and a fear of not eating as healthy as you would like to – all because the grocery store didn’t have the items you need for the meals you planned.
If you’re anything like me, this has happened on more than one occasion. You probably also did what I did, and the only thing left to do after this happens is on a recurring basis. Scour the internet to find which vegan meal delivery service can provide legit nutritious meals while also saving you time and money. Does something like this exist?

In this article, I’m going to roll out the blueprint for choosing one of two plant-based vegan meal delivery services: Splendid Spoon or Daily Harvest.
You see, I was in this exact situation a few months ago. The main difference is there wasn’t a ton of information out there on either of these vegan meal brands. So, I had to do it the old fashion way – go to Splendid Spoon’s website, go to Daily Harvest’s website, and research all things that make them equal and different.
Lucky for you I saved all that information on a spreadsheet and now I’m giving it away for free in this article. After all, I live to serve! Hopefully, by the end of it, you’ll find which one of these 100% vegan meal delivery services is best for you.
Warm Up Before The Vegan Meal Delivery Superbowl Match up
Just like the Superbowl, players can’t just go right out there and play the game. They need to warm up to get locked in and ready to go.
I first noticed Daily Harvest after getting bombarded with their ads on Facebook. I guess Facebook knows a Vegan when they see one, am I right? The crazy thing was seeing that they offered everything from breakfast, lunch, and dinner to soups, lattes, and ice cream. A few days later, more brands were popping up out of the woodwork. One of them was Splendid Spoon.
There were other vegan meal delivery brands that I had to knock out of the round-robin until there was a final showdown between two of the top plant-based meal services. Today, I present Daily Harvest and Splendid Spoon in a hotly anticipated vegan match-up.

Pricing, Cost, and Value: I Purchased Both, and Here’s The Truth
Discussing price right away sets the tone for the rest of the matchup because we’ll want to reference it during the article.
Yes, I purchased both Daily Harvest and Splendid Spoon each for a month straight. I started with Daily Harvest, so let’s begin there and end with Splendid Spoon.
Daily Harvest’s Pricing
With Daily Harvest, you choose how many items you want to receive and how often they get delivered to your doorstep. So how much does daily harvest cost? You can get discounts on bulk orders, but the baseline pricing for items is between $6.79 to $11.99. (Excluding lattes and mylks that cost a few dollars less – $5.99 for 2 lattes and $7.99 for a mylk carton)
Here are the items I bought on daily-harvest.com
- Smoothies: Vanilla Bean + Cacao
- Harvest Bowl: Red Lentil + Cumin
- Flat Bread: Tomato + Basil
- Soup: Lentil + Cremini
- Chia Bowl: Vanilla Bean + Apple
- Bites: Cacao Nib + Vanilla
- Ice Cream: Mint + Dark, Melty Cacao Chips
I think everyone gets the point that I love vanilla and to each their own. Let’s take a look at each of the item’s prices and what I paid for them.
How Much Are Daily Harvest’s Smoothies?
Daily Harvest charges $8.49 per smoothie. You will need a blender, as Daily Harvest’s smoothies do not come pre-made like Splendid Spoon smoothies (more on this later). I bought 4 of these (4 per week) for a total weekly cost of $33.96, or $135.84 monthly. I don’t drink smoothies every day, but I like to have them on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

How Much Do Harvest Bowls Cost?
The Harvest Bowls are priced at $9.79 per. I purchased 5 per week, as I order from my favorite local vegan restaurant on the weekends with my outgoing friends. Overall, the Harvest Bowls cost me $48.95 weekly or $195.80 monthly.

What’s the Pricing for Flat Bread by Daily Harvest?
I went with the Tomato + Basil Flat Bread item that costs $9.79. These were used for my lunch (along with soup). I bought 7 of these (1 for each day), which cost a total of $68.53, or $274.12 monthly. A little pricey, but considering I save the hassle of not finding what I need at the grocery store, along with preparing and cleaning up meals, it’s worth it.

Cost of Daily Harvest’s Soup
For my soup selection, I went with the Lentil + Cremini which was $8.49 per item. As I mentioned above, I eat my soup for lunch, along with my flatbread. That means I spent $59.43 per week or $237.72 monthly.

Chia Bowl Pricing
I used their Chia Bowls for my breakfast and it costs $6.79 per item. In total, purchased 7 per week for a $47.53 weekly total, or $190.12 monthly.

Snacks and Deserts
Who doesn’t want a treat at the end of a long workday? For the Daily Harvest Bites, I chose the 7 bites for $8.99 and only bought 1 package, so I spread that across the month. I then chose to get some ice cream and wanted to get enough because, why not? It costs $8.99 per pint for the Mint + Dark, Melty Cacao Chips. Don’t judge me on this, but I purchased 12 pints (LOL) for a total of $107.88 for the month.

Grand Total for all my meals using Daily Harvest for the Month: $1,141.48. Usually, I would spend around $190 per week at the grocery store, or $760 monthly. That’s a $381 difference, but I didn’t get frustrated one time not finding what I needed at the grocery store because I didn’t go.
A quick side note: I could have saved money if I didn’t purchase the ice cream, but when in Rome.
Splendid Spoon’s Pricing
When you first do research on the pricing of Splendid Spoon, you’ll notice they are a little higher than Daily Harvest, but after using both vegan meal delivery services, Splendid Spoon has bigger portions. For example, Splendid Spoon’s smoothies are 16 oz. while Daily Harvest’s smoothies are 7 oz.
Depending on your meal plan, Splendid Spoon pricing can be anywhere between $9-$13.

Here’s what I bought on splendidspoon.com
- Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner + Reset Plan
- 25 Pack of Wellness Shots
- 25 Pack of Detox Shots

How much does a meal delivery plan cost with Splendid Spoon?
After choosing the Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner + Reset Plan, it cost me $165 for the week or $660 monthly. I knew, however, that this was not going to be enough for me, so I decided to stock up.
A 25 Pack of wellness shots costs me $100 and a 25-pack of Detox Shots cost another $100.
Grand total spending on Splendid Spoon meals for the month: $860. Obviously, this is much less than Daily Harvest's $1,141.48. but like I said, I purchased Ice cream over there (which was just ok, probably not worth the money).
Overall Splendid Spoon was much cheaper and I liked how I can just choose a meal plan over buying individual items. Shopping on Daily Harvest was time-consuming, and that’s not what I’m about here.
Splendid Spoon wins the 1st quarter in the pricing competition.

Types of Meals
Overall, Splendid Spoon and Daily Harvest are VERY similar in terms of types of meals.
Let’s break it down by meal categories.
Daily Harvest offers over 80+ items in the following meal categories:
- Smoothies
- Harvest Bowls
- Flatbreads
- Soups
- Oat Bowls
- Chia Bowls
- Scoops
- Bites
- Lattes
Splendid Spoon offers 40+ items across these meal categories:
- Smoothies
- Bowls: Soups & Grains
- Noodles
- Wellness Shots
- Resets

Daily Harvest may have more items to choose from, but the categories are very similar. I love how each vegan brand has its own little twist on things. For example, Daily Harvest has Bites and Lattes, where Splendid Spoon has Wellness Shots and Resets.
I didn’t care much for Daily Harvest’s Bites, Chia Bowls, or their Flatbreads. To me, Splendid Spoon was better tasting and filled me up better.
Ingredients
Daily Harvest and Splendid Spoon are very similar when it comes to ingredients. In fact, it’s probably the one thing that is a tie between the two. They both offer plant-based ingredients that are 100% vegan, gluten-free and non-GMO. We’ll give this point to Daily Harvest because we all feel bad for them.
Convenience: Is Splendid Spoon Better Than Daily Harvest?
Both Splendid Spoon and Daily Harvest make clean eating super simple, but Splendid Spoon sends ready-to-go, pre-blended smoothies (whereas you’ll need to blend your own Daily Harvest smoothies) and pre-planned meals. Convenience saves time and money, and that’s what Splendid Spoon does better than Daily Harvest.

Which Should You Choose? Splendid Spoon or Daily Harvest?
There’s no denying that these two subscription vegan meal delivery services have a lot in common. After trying each service for a month a piece, both have a lot to offer to those looking for plant-based vegan meals on autopilot.
For me, it isn’t that hard to pick an outright winner because I tried both.
Final Score: Splendid Spoon 3, Daily Harvest 1
Does this reflect my actual opinion? Yes. Do I think everyone should run to Splendid Spoon and fill up their cart? No! Because I love me some Daily Harvest too!
It’s all a matter of preference. So, here are my honest thoughts.
If you’re looking for convenience and value larger portions, Splendid Spoon is the winner. They have pre-made smoothies blended to perfection so you can be super efficient with your time. In addition, their website is a heck of a lot easier to order from because they have everything bundled up. On the other hand, if you’d prefer variety, you’ll find more with Daily Harvest. They have “Scoops” AKA ice cream, Bites, and over 80 different items to choose from.
As for me, I will continue to be a die-hard Splendid Spoon eater. Eating healthy, and saving time and money go a long way for me, and that’s what Splendid Spoon provides. Whatever you decide to do, adhering to a plant-based diet is strongly related to increased weight loss and fat loss according to research studies (1, 2, 3).
